Puppet Polygonia visits with her familiar, a Question Mark butterfly (polygonia interrogationis). The beautiful earth tone colors of the Question Mark butterfly make this butterfly my favorite. Just seeing one makes me feel a deep connection to our Earth Mother. Hackberry trees in my yard serve as host plant for Question Marks. This is a butterfly not drawn to flower nectar but instead derives nourishment from tree sap, overripe fruit, and even animal dung. Makes me think of the Buddhist saying No Mud No Lotus.
