About The Event
In this four-part series of experiential workshops, we will explore how taking on a Citizen Science project in nature can deepen one’s writing while making a real contribution to science. Conversely, we will explore what special traits a creative writer brings to the pursuit of Citizen Science.

Schedule:
Friday, October 4, 9-11:30 a.m.: Intro to Citizen Science. Gemini Ink Offices.
Selecting a subject, keeping a nature journal, looking at the writings of Ellen Meloy and Sharman Apt Russell. Based on memory experiences, participants will draft a first poem or short prose piece.
Friday, October 11, 9-11:30 a.m.: In the Field at Hardberger Park: How to Slow Down to Embody the Language of Tree, Insect, Bird, Cloud, and Stone
A mindfulness walk with writing prompts. Sharing of Nature Journals.
Friday, October 18, 9-11:30 a.m.: Butterfly monitoring at the San Antonio Botanical Gardens.
Participants will engage in citizen science at the height of Monarch migration and then create a poem or short prose piece.

Friday, October 25, 9-11:30 a.m.: Gemini Ink Offices.
Crafting and revising poems or short prose pieces based on the month’s experiences and individual nature journals.
